Closing Its Doors on April 10th 2019

Bread of Life Community Soup Kitchen is closing its doors on April 10th 2019. The community soup kitchen has had the privilege of serving Cedar City and Iron county for over five years at its current location. The soup kitchen would like to give a warm thank you to all the citizens who have served and donated to the kitchen over the years. Your loyal support has allowed the kitchen to serve thousands of meals to the needy and combat hunger over the years. Thank you for all that you have done to support this ministry in our cherished community.
If you would like to continue to fight against hunger in the name of Jesus Christ or in need of assistance, we would recommend the food pantry at True Life Center located on Main st. in Cedar City.
Thank you again for serving, and letting us serve you.

Soup Kitchen gears up for spring migration of homeless

With the early onset of spring this year, Bread of life Community Soup Kitchen has seen the migration of homeless through Iron County earlier then normal. Traditionally the homeless spend the winter in southern Arizona then move up to Washington for the summer.  The I15 freeway is a direct route that is taken for this journey twice a year. With the Bread of Life Community Kitchen located just a few hundred feet from the freeway we get many visitors while they are undertaking this journey. We are in need of survival/camping gear for these people who are moving to more temperate climates. IF you have any of the following at home that you are not in need of anymore it would be greatly appreciated.

Tents
Backpacks
Sleeping bags
Personal hygiene products
Water filters
Canned food

Thank you and God bless!

         1 pound beef sausage
         1 bell pepper chopped
         1 onion, minced
         2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
         1/4 cup olive oil
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
1 (46 fluid ounce) can tomato juice
1 (16 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
         1 1/2 tablespoons dried oregano
         1 tablespoon dried basil
         2 tablespoons dried parsley
         1 tablespoon minced garlic
         2 tablespoons garlic salt
         2 pounds spaghetti

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cook sausage for 30 minutes. Cut into bite sized pieces, and set aside.
In a Dutch oven, sauté onion and mushrooms in olive oil until tender. Remove with slotted spoon, and set aside. Stir into Dutch oven: tomato paste, tomato juice, Italian tomatoes, and wine. Stir until smooth. Mix in oregano, basil, parsley, garlic, garlic salt, and sugar. Return sausage and onion and mushroom sauté to sauce. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for at least 1 hours. Cover pot if sauce becomes too thick.

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain. Serve sauce over pasta. Don't forget some parmesan cheese on top. Enjoy.

Just a helpfull hint that we have learned at Bread of Life soup Kitchen, if you burn your spaghitti sauce add some peanut butter until you can't taste the burt flavor anymore. works every time.

The van is up and running again!

Bread of Life Community Soup Kitchen has started their van ministry back up!
It will pick up passengers at 11:30 am at the Main Street Park pavilion starting on March 28th. The van is a fifteen-passenger van and will work on a first come first serve basis. The van will pick up its passengers and take them straight to the bread of Life Community Soup kitchen for a free meal then take them straight back to the Main Street part about 45+ minuets later.

Sonrise Christian Fellowship was very gracious in allowing us to barrow their church van in order for us to pick up people in need. They also provided drivers from there congregation to help facilitate.

White Chicken Chili

This week at the Bread of Life Community Soup Kitchen we had an old favorite, white chicken chili. Many asked for the recipe so we thought we would post it for everyone to enjoy.

White Chicken Chili

Ingredients
         1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
         1 onion, chopped
         2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 (15.5 ounce) cans great Northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth
2 (4 ounce) cans chopped green chiles
         1 teaspoon salt
         1 teaspoon ground cumin
         1 teaspoon dried oregano
         1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
         1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
         1 cup sour cream

Directions
Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir chicken, onion, and garlic into the hot oil until chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, 10 to 15 minutes.
Mix Great Northern beans, chicken broth, green chiles, salt, cumin, oregano, black pepper, and cayenne pepper into chicken mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have blended, about 30 minutes.

Remove chili from heat; stir in sour cream until incorporated.

Enjoy!
